My story-

A 6-year journey of overcoming

my condition

  • Four Years of Training Across Three Countries, Two Years of Self-Training During COVID, and a Story of Fully Overcoming My Condition.

At three, I was diagnosed with Divergent Strabismus, an eye condition that caused my right eye to drift while my left remained fixed. Surgery offered no certainty, so I turned instead to vision training, a process so demanding that most adults undergo only two hours a week. I insisted on far more. From second through fifth grade, I trained one to three hours daily during every school break, relearning how to see. Throughout this difficult time, writing, a long-time passion, lent me comfort. Between training sessions, I poured myself into poetry and fiction, writing more than thirty handmade books. Those early experiences continue to shape my writing today, as I use language to explore social injustice, law, and identity. Writing became both refuge and discipline, an intellectual lens through which I made sense of struggle.
By fifth grade, my vision stabilized. More importantly, my perspective had sharpened. Vision training taught me that growth is not passive endurance but intentional effort—choosing to engage with difficulty rather than retreat from it. That mindset reshaped how I approach the world beyond myself.
Today, I apply that lesson through service and leadership. I founded a digital platform that helps seniors navigate technology, bridging generational and access gaps that often leave older adults isolated. I also lead seminars for third-culture students, creating spaces to unpack displacement, cultural hybridity, and belonging. In each context, I aim not to "solve" challenges for others, but to listen carefully and build tools that empower people to advocate for themselves. Learning to see clearly was never just physical. It trained me to examine systems critically, to value resilience without romanticizing struggle, and to approach global issues with both rigor and empathy. The same persistence that once taught my eyes to work together now guides how I write, lead, and engage with a complex world, one that demands clarity, compassion, and the courage to look closely. My Childhood Story: Six Years of Overcoming Since 2nd Grade A video I created in middle school to share my story and give courage to others. Looking back, I've come to realize that the difficulties I faced weren't just obstacles—they were gifts in disguise. The struggles that once seemed so overwhelming have shaped me into who I am today, and for that, I am deeply grateful. My story is a reminder that our hardest moments can become our greatest blessings.

My journey of overcoming was presented as a video at the 2023 COVD Korea International Annual Conference.

Korean Culture Club

As a founding member and Co-Head of the Korean Culture Club, I have organized and facilitated a variety of engaging events designed to introduce the Milton Academy community to Korean culture. These events include Lunar New Year celebrations, traditional Korean games, and other interactive cultural activities. Each event has attracted enthusiastic participation from students across the school, fostering cross-cultural understanding and creating joyful experiences for all attendees.

Korean Games Event: With over 40 Milton students participating, this event became one of the most popular cultural activities on campus.
